Task 10: Legends

A legend is a story which is based on a real character, that is, one who is neither living now or who did live at one time.  The stories have gone beyond the real truth, however.  You have probably heard stories about Daniel Boone, King Arthur, Davey Crocket, Wild Bill Hickock, or even
Billy the Kid.  These characters were either heroes or have been made heroes by story tellers over the years.  Even Johnny Appleseed (not his real name) is a character based on a real person who at one time wandered around planting apple trees.

There are present day people such as "Mr. T," Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali), or people of the near past, such as John F. Kennedy, or Martin Luther King Jr. who are considered heroes by many people.  Some people do become "legends in their own time" when they are looked up to and admired by a great many people, but most legendary characters are no longer living.

Your task for this time is to think of a person who you consider a sort of "hero."  Then write a story about something in this person's life which might really have happened to a real person.  Of course, you are making it up as you go along whereas a true legend usually takes some event which did actually occur to or during the life of the hero and stretches the truth by
adding things to make the story more interesting--things which probably did not actually happen.

This task will likely take more than one day to complete.  Make it interesting with lots of descriptive words.  Make the character and the event which happened sound real.  Your "legend" may be read to others or displayed where others may read it, so use good language structure.

Be creative and use your imagination!
